The Obit.

"Moses was 120 years old when he died; his sight was unimpaired and his vigor had not abated... Never since has there arisen a prophet in Israel like Moses, whom the LORD knew face to face. He was unequaled for all the signs and wonders that the LORD sent him to perform in the land of Egypt, against Pharaoh and all his servants and his entire land, and for all the mighty deeds and all the terrifying displays of power that Moses performed in the sight of all Israel."

(Deuteronomy 34:7,10-12)

What do you want said about you when you die? How do you want to be remembered? Moses died, according to the book of Deuteronomy, at the ripe old age of 120! The narrator tells us "his sight was unimpaired and his vigor had not abated. That's a decent obituary right there!

Moses' relationship with God was multilayered. At first, he was reluctant to accept God's call as an agent of change. In fact, he tried all he could to get out of it. But God wouldn't let him go. Moses was faithful to obey all that God told him to do in the Exodus story and beyond. But often he grew frustrated with the people God had given him to lead. And at one point, Moses went beyond what God asked him to do... and the consequences were that Moses could not enter the Promised Land.

NEVERTHELESS... when time came for Moses' obituary, the narrator tells us that there has never been one like Moses - who talked with God face to face. I love it.

It tells me that none of us should be known by our worst moments. That God values our relationship - the ups and downs of truly walking alongside someone in love.

I don't presume to be on par with a great one like Moses. But I do take heart in how he lived his life with God. And in the end, it wouldn't be too bad if folks said of me, "His eyesight was unimpaired and his vigor had not abated." How about you?
