Walking Tall

"I am the LORD your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, to be their slaves no more; I have broken the bars of your yoke and made you walk erect."

(Leviticus 26:13)

We human beings are amazing creatures. We can endure incredible hardships and come out as victors. But we also can be undone by wayward comments, thoughts, addictions, and self-doubt.

The single-greatest event in the Old Testament (rivaled only by The Exile) would have to be The Exodus. God brought an enslaved and beaten-down people out of bondage in Egypt... and in "40 short years" (!!!) brought them into "The Promised Land." It was a re-shaping experience - spiritually, relationally, and nationally for the Hebrew people. God said, "I have broken the bars of your yoke and made you walk erect." Two vital components to this statement are: freedom & self-worth.

Although human trafficking and modern-day slavery are still a reality (ugh), few of us here in the United States have literally been enslaved. But we all seem to be, from time to time, "enslaved" by self-doubt, insecurity, poor choices, addictions, illnesses, etc. I believe God wants to free us from these "bars" that have a hold on our lives. But not only that... God also wants to help us walk tall ("erect") as well! To remind us that we are beloved, valuable, important, and have a purpose in life.

Sometimes we forget that.

Thank you, Lord!
