Slacker!

"Accursed is the one who is slack in doing the work of the LORD..."

(Jeremiah 48:10)

Anyone who works at a church has to stop at Jeremiah 48:10 - "Accursed is the one who is slack in doing the work of the LORD..." Wow! No pressure, right?!?

Jobs, in general, should be pursued with passion & integrity. All of us should do our very best and be committed to excellence at whatever we do for employment. But this simple verse reminds us... well, actually reminds ME... that when God has a call on your (my) life, and God has given you (me!) work to do for his Kingdom, there's a little extra responsibility entrusted.

One of the challenges of being a pastor is the tendency to "just get by." Sunday comes EVERY week... and sometimes it's all we can do to just get everything ready for Sunday worship. And yet, there's SO MUCH MORE to being a pastor than Sunday worship. And I know how important it is to have energy and vision (and a TEAM of support staff) to do things that go beyond just Sunday mornings.

So keep me going, Lord! Give me both energy and vision to carry out the mission and ministry you've called me to! AMEN.
