"In the 7th year of Jehu, Jehoash began to reign; he reigned 40 years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Zibiah of Beer-sheba. Jehoash did what was right in the sight of the LORD all his days, because the priest Jehoiada instructed him."
(2 Kings 12:1-2)
In the books of I & II Kings, as the "roll call" of kings marches on, one of the sentences that's always included (in addition to the king's name, age, and length of reign) is whether or not he did good or evil 'in the sight of the Lord'. The vast majority, you may be surprised to know, actually did EVIL. Every now and then, however, a king would do right (go figure). Such is the case in 2 Kings 12.
Jehoash becomes king at age 7. No one is fully capable of ruling at that age, of course. So WHO one surrounds themselves with is super important. We need to have positive people who remind us of God... who encourage us to do what's right. At the same time, we need to be that for others! We should look out for young people (children, grandchildren, etc.) and help encourage them todo what's right and walk in the ways of God! AMEN.
