Welcome correction.

"Let the righteous strike me; let the faithful correct me. Never let the oil of the wicked anoint my head, for my prayer is continually against their wicked deeds."

(Psalm 141:5)

There are very few people I know who like to be corrected. No one wants to be told they're wrong... mistaken... or misguided. And yet, few of us are actually perfect. We ALL have areas which could be improved. Part of the way we grow is through making mistakes and learning from them.

But HOW we're corrected makes a HUGE difference. In Psalm 141, the author mentions wanting the righteous to correct him - not the wicked. So true! When people we know and love correct, reprove or reproach us, it's often easier to swallow - because we know they legitimately care about us! When others do it, we often take offense.

So surround yourself with wise and faithful people! Give them permission to "speak the truth in love" to us. Encourage them to be honest when we stray or move off the pathway we know we should be on. That's how we grow. Welcome their correction.
