"The heavens are telling the glory of God; and the firmament proclaims his handiwork. Day to day pours forth speech, and night to night declares knowledge. There is no speech, nor are there words; their voice is not heard; yet their voice goes forth through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world."
(Psalm 19:1-4)
It was completely dark was we pushed the canoes out onto the lake and silently paddled to the middle. The air was still. We were super sleepy. And it was so quiet. Then we stopped and waited. As the sky started to lighten, the mountains began to sing around us. A color symphony erupted as we witnessed one ofd the most amazing sunrises I'd ever experienced in my 25 years of life!
I love the great outdoors. My father was a National Park Service ranger, so I grew up with a passion for Creation. This world has incredible beauty - all we have to do is pay attention. The writer of Psalm 19 does a marvelous job in telling us how this created world SCREAMS of God's glory. Without words, of course. But it's everywhere, all-day (and night) long!
The age-old religious debate about whether people who've never heard of Jesus can "get into heaven" to me misses the point. The glory of God is all around us, people! The love, majesty, splendor, grace, intricacy, passion and incredible glory of God is everywhere. EVERYWHERE! Pay attention to that. And God will meet you in that recognition.
