"Just DEW it!"
"How very good and pleasant it is when kindred live together in unity! It is like the precious oil on the head, running down upon the beard, on the beard of Aaron, running down over the collar of his robes. it is like the dew of Hermon, which runs down the mountains of Zion. For there the LORD ordained his blessing, life forevermore."
(Psalm 133)
I'm not exactly a "neat freak" (a gaze around my house will let you know that sweeping, dusting, and vacuuming aren't exactly priorities!)... but I do like things to be somewhat neat and in order. I'm not a big fan of messiness. I quickly clean up spills. So when I read Psalm 133 today, and got to the part about the oil running down a beard and getting all over one's collar... I was a bit unnerved.
It's a psalm of celebration. Celebration of UNITY. God desires that we get along - especially within our clan (family, neighborhood, community, country, etc.).
So when I started thinking more deeply about the "messy oil" imagery, the idea hit me: it gets everywhere! And then the psalmist finishes the psalm by speaking about the dew on Mt. Hermon as a representation of God's mercy and blessing. And the dew is also EVERYWHERE! So every morning when I wake up and go outside to get the paper, and notice the dew on the grass... it should be a reminder of God's love and mercy (that gets EVERYWHERE!)... plus a call for me to be in right relationship with others.
How about you?
