Listen to Her!

"Wisdom cries out in the streets; in the square she raises her voice... Give heed to my reproof; I will pour out my thoughts to you; I will make my words known to you."
(Proverbs 1:20, 23)
One of the hard and fast "givens" of life is that nobody is perfect. We all make mistakes... screw up... have lapses of judgment... and occasionally do something totally clueless (or out of character). The main question really is, how well do we take correction?
The vast majority of images of God in the Bible are male-dominated (Father, Lord, Savior, King, etc.). That's understandable, given the social constraints the Bible was written in. But not ALL of the images for the Divine are male. One of the more powerful female images is found in the book of Proverbs: Wisdom (or "Lady Wisdom")! This feminine image of God has been around since the creation. And Wisdom longs to guide, instruct, impart knowledge, and inspire us. But since nobody is perfect, Wisdom also seeks to correct, reprove, chastise, and also inspire us to new directions in our life and faith.
Proverbs shows Wisdom as crying out in the streets to all who will listen. And when we don't (or won't), Wisdom is also there to help put us back on the right track. IF we'll listen to Her.
As I've been Scripture Journaling over the past decade plus, I've come to truly value the wisdom of God that's found in the Bible. Sometimes I forget to listen to that wisdom... but it's always there to change, challenge, encourage, and transform me. The words are so apt: "Give heed to my reproof; I will pour out my thoughts to you; I will make my words known to you." (Prov. 1:23). It's up to me to take the time to listen.
