#DivineEarworm

"But I will sing of your might: I will sing aloud of your steadfast love in the morning. For you have been a fortress for me and a refuge in the day of my distress."

(Psalm 59:16)

Am I the only one who wakes up with a song in my head? Usually it's whatever song I was listening to within a few hours of going to sleep the night before (those dreaded "earworms"!). This morning, it was "Pound Sign (#?*!)" by Kevin Fowler (country singer). I... can't... stop... singing... it... in... my... head!!!"

When I read Psalm 59 this morning, I found something else to put in my head. The author, after starting the psalm speaking about his enemies and how they're trying to do him in, shifts to singing (aloud!) about God's steadfast love. Not just any time of the day, but a very specific time: "in the morning."

Why the AM? I'm guessing because it sets the tone for the rest of the day. If we can start our day singing of God's steadfast love, it will stick with us throughout the rest of the day. It will influence our thoughts, words, and deeds. Whatever comes our way will be viewed in light of God's steadfast love.

This should, if practiced regularly, change how my day transpires. Nothing should derail me or get me down. I'll still face challenges and struggles, of course (we ALL do). But God's steadfast love will see me through. "I could sing of your love forever!"
