Keep Still.
"But Moses said tot he people, 'Do not be afraid, stand firm, and see the deliverance the LORD will accomplish for you today; for the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall never see again. The LORD will fight for you, and you only have to keep still."
(Exodus 14:13-14)
There are lots of times in life where we are forced to face our FEARS. When a relationship we thought would always be there changes. When a medical report comes in with unexpected (and life-disrupting) news. When our job states is altered. When our children (or grandchildren) make choices in life that are different from the ones we've made - or they simply embark on a new endeavor that's kind of scary! You name it, there are lots of reasons fear creeps into our lives.
The Israelites knew fear. Especially during the time of Moses and the Exodus. After crying out to God for the way they were being treated... after experiencing 10 Plagues as God sought to change Pharaoh's heart... and after finally being freed... Pharaoh changes his mind and comes after the Hebrew people with chariots and soldiers. When word gets tot he people, they panic. Almost to the point of hysterics. That's what fear does. It takes away our rational thinking.
But Moses was up to the challenge. He called the people to remain calm. To fear not. God would deliver them! In fact, the very people they were so afraid of (the Egyptian soldiers), they'd never see again after God finished doing His thing. "The LORD will fight for you, and you only have to keep still."
What a comforting promise. The LORD will fight for you. Just keep still... keep calm... keep praying... keep resting in God's loving arms. Trust Him to work through that relationship, or medical condition, or job situation, or in the lives of your children & grandchildren, or whatever it might be. It may seem insurmountable and overwhelming. But that's just from OUR perspective. God sees differently than we do.
We only have to keep still.
