Truth.

"Do not take the word of truth utterly out of my mouth, for my hope is in your ordinances."

(Psalm 119:43)

We all have convictions. We all have beliefs. We all have issues that are near and dear to our hearts. And we all, in one way or another, speak about those to others. Some of us "cast a wider net" in the people we speak to than others may, but we all have spheres of influence in our lives (however big or small).

As a person of faith, I want to speak truth. However, I also know I bring my own biases, prejudices, and opinions to what I say. We all do. There's no such thing as "unbiased" opinions. But I want to speak words of truth, nonetheless. The Psalmist in my reading today (Ps. 119) can relate to this, I think. "Do not take the word of truth utterly out of my mouth..."

There is TRUTH in this world. As a Christian, I believe God's truth is available for us to grasp (and live into!). The challenge is not to mess it up too much. So as I speak, teach, write, "talk story," and communicate with others, I need to be asking God to help me not obscure his truth with my own "slant" on things. May I not be someone who inhibits or deters another's was with the LORD because of my speech.
